Farm Description:Our land, in rural Northwest Indiana (2hrs from Chicago), is an 80+ acre wooded property. Aside from the herbal and veggie gardens, small orchard, a community house, and campgrounds, the property remains in its natural state. The land hosts a variety of herbal and bodywork classes, elementary class trips, is an open retreat space for people to come experience nature, and is registered as a United Plant Savers Botanical Sanctuary.
WWOOFers will primarily work in the gardens and greenhouse, landscaping, wild harvesting, herb processing, and medicine making. We also will be focusing on mushroom cultivation, worm composting, raising chickens and possibly honey bees, natural building projects, bio-diesel production and developing renewable energy sources. We want people that are motivated to learn and take ownership in starting up new projects.
We can use wwoofers year round but particularly during the growing season; the earlier the better. Short to long term stays. Sleeping accommodations include a small room sized cabin for a single person or a couple, a large communal sleeping area in the main house, and camping. Pick ups can be arranged from Chicago and various places in NW Indiana. We have a vehicle on site and can take people into town and there are a few bikes available. It's good if you have your own transportation but not necessary. We are between two lakes and a 10 minute drive from a nice small town, Culver. English and some spanish spoken. We can negotiate about children, no pets. All diets welcome.
