Farm Description:WE ARE IN A SERIOUS DROUGHT NOW AND NEED HELP . PLEASE COME AND HELP IF YOU CAN !!!!!!
We are located on 9.2 acres in the beautiful Pecos River Valley of northern New Mexico. We have four greenhouses for year round vegetable production and several outdoor veggie patches (all irrigated by our acequia, enhanced with drip lines); three bee hives; and more hives and other animals to come, hopefully this season (2011). There are many projects in the works here, including starting Desert Grows, a non-profit that connects more of the community with healthy produce, and helps local farms produce more of it. There are various building projects in the works, including repairs and building a community commercial kitchen. Volunteers will also gain experience with all aspects of the marketing process, including production of value-added products and going to our four local farmers's markets. We have wireless internet, and web experience/expertise is a big plus!
Wwoofers are expected to work approximately 4-5 hrs a day, 6 days a week. We accept volunteers year-round and length of stay is open. Currently, accommodations include one private room and camping, but one of our projects is building more volunteer housing. There are lots of beautiful hiking trails and swimming holes nearby. We are unable to provide regular transportation, but there is a bus that goes to Santa Fe. Open to children and pets, but they must be comfortable with our three dogs. English only spoken, diet is omnivorous.
