Farm Description:

Perched up on a ridge with epic sunset views, this diverse and vibrant vegetable farm produces over 40 different crops for a 80 member CSA, weekly farmer's market and wholesale restaurant accounts. The farm is 12, mostly open, acres with about 3.5 in vegetables. In addition to the veggies, the farm also hosts a herd of pasture raised pigs, fruit trees very young and very old and a growing perianal herb garden. The focus of the work here is on vegetable production. Volunteers will be able to plug in to whatever the task is at hand. It could be a major transplanting push, a weeding emergency, or an afternoon of staking tomatoes. Depending on the day they may pack CSA shares for delivery, harvest potatoes, or thin carrots. Volunteers will gain exposure to growing lots of beautiful and ecologically conscious food at a busy farm with a small and knowledgeable crew. This is youthful, focused and very productive work environment and volunteers are expected to be mentally present and committed during their stay here. This is not a homestead, but is a working farm business. Volunteers are expected to work four hours a day, 8-12 or 1-5 with a planned schedule when they arrive. Volunteers are very welcomed to ask questions about how and why they are doing something. WWOOFer accommodations are camping in the enchanted back meadow of the farm, which has a super pristine out house, a fire pit, hammocks in the trees, and a platform for stargazing. Tents and gear can be provided if need be and there is ample space in the refrigerator in the barn to store food. WWOOFers are provided with all the veggies they can eat and basic staples like rice, oil, eggs, spices etc. If folks have very special dietary needs, they should come prepared. The farm crew has one shared meal a week which volunteers are encouraged to attend. Volunteers can be picked up at nearby train or bus stations or in Portland, Maine or Portsmouth, NH which are both 45 minutes away. The farm is about 20 minutes to the beach, about an hour to the White Mountains, and exactly 1 mile from a super glorious lake for lunch time dips. We are native English speakers, with a working knowledge of Spanish. Couples are welcome, but children and pets are not. A minimum stay of 3 days is ideal and depending on the work load, and if it feels like a match for all involved, longer stays are negotiable.
