Farm Description:

Beautiful 300+ acre farm located in Schoharie county. We are about 1 hour from Albany & 30 mins from Cooperstown. Many of the fields are rented to local farmers who raise hay or garlic. We are preparing to start our 4th year, and we grow organic herbs and vegetables for sale at a local farmers market, an online market, to wholesale and/or private businesses, & to an innovative food program in NYC that connects small farmers with folks who live in urban food deserts. We are in the process of scaling up production this year, and will be increasing our plantings of fruits (brambles, native fruits, and an orchard). We raise a few pigs, chickens, sheep, and ducks. Depending on the season, activities could include planting, weeding, harvesting, helping to make value-added products (jams and relishes that we sell at market), repairs to/cleaning equipment or the barn, building raised beds, putting up hoop houses, helping at farmers market, feeding animals, cleaning pens, etc. We believe in creating community and bartering and helping friends in times of need; expect that you may be asked to help out other local farmer friends if needed. We accept helpers from April-November, 5 day minimum stay, longer is preferred. We are actively looking for someone to intern for the 2013 season, starting in April if possible. There are 2 extra bedrooms in my house for wwoofers, and camping is always an option if that is preferred. We can take 2-3 people max at any given time. We expect you to work at least 6 hours per day, and we provide meals and housing. Having your own transportation is best as it is a very rural area, and you will be living 2 miles away from the farm. Beautiful hiking trails on farm as well as nearby scenic areas, no TV service but there is internet access if you bring a laptop, lots of books to read and a library literally across the street, relaxed atmosphere.
